The authors reviewed 46 top selling parenting books on health and/or safety published between 1984 and 2003. Of books geared toward parents of younger children, none of the top 10 messages related to firearm safety. Of books geared toward parents of adolescents, 6 of the 10 leading messages related to firearm safety, especially safe storage. However, the likelihood of firearm injury prevention’s being addressed in each type of book was similar, approximately 60%.
