A total of 20 spousal homicide-suicides, cases in which a spouse killed his partner then himself, among individuals 55 years old or older were identified in Florida between January 1, 1998 and December 31, 1999. All the men who committed a homicide-suicide used a gun to kill their spouse and themselves. National data from the National Center for Health Statistics indicate older men commit suicide with firearms 72% of the time.
