The authors reviewed evidence that indicates the likely effectiveness of some initiatives designed to reduce gun violence. The most effective policies to reduce gun violence cannot be determined definitively, but the evidence provides broad guidance on gun policy options. Reducing gun violence is important and deserves attention from policymakers, despite the fact that gun violence, specifically gun assaults and homicides, is concentrated among those segments of society that do not carry much influence in the policymaking process.
