The authors examined data from every Federal Firearms Licensee ammunition purchase log in the City of Los Angeles during April and May 2004. During this time period, 2,031 unique purchasers made 2,540 transactions that resulted in the sale of 4,823 boxes of ammunition, totaling 436,956 rounds. Of unique purchasers, 2.6% had a prior felony conviction or another condition that prohibited them from possessing ammunition. During the study period, prohibited possessors purchased 10,050 rounds of ammunition in Los Angeles.
