Serious youth gun offenders and the epidemic of youth violence in Boston

The author analyzed criminal history data of a sample of 720 gun assault and gun possession offenders younger than 24 years old, arrested between 1984 and 1995 in Boston, to examine whether the criminal profile of youth gun offenders in Boston had changed over time. The results indicate that Boston’s youth violence epidemic during those 12 years was concentrated among serious offenders.
