The authors reviewed previously published studies on the effect of Canada’s Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1977 (Bill C-51) on suicide rates by age and gender. They also present the findings of two new studies: one that utilized an interrupted time-series analysis and another using multiple regression analysis that controls for some social variables. They conclude that Bill C-51 may have had an impact on suicide rates.
