The author responds to an article published in 2001 by Sherman et al “Firearms Risk Management in Psychiatric Care” regarding the need to ask suicidal and potentially dangerous patients about access to guns and other weapons. Berg critiques that article because the authors do not address the impact of physician, institutional and the public’s denial to ask about firearm violence. He notes that Sherman’s article supports several common myths of gun control advocates.
