This literature review includes factors linked to adolescent substance abuse and suicide, including behavior and mood disorders, age, gender, sexual orientation, culture, family history and guns in the home. The author cites studies indicating an increase in suicide by firearms as opposed to other methods and a higher rate of alcohol use among adolescent suicides who used firearms than those who did not.
